Municipal Corporation (KMC) commissioner P Siva Sankar has made some provisions like providing an e-learning facility to 25 civic schools from the academic year 2016-17. Currently, six schools run by the civic body have been functioning with the e-learning facility.The starting of three new semi-English medium schools is another provision made in the budget. For this purpose, new teaching staff and the required facilities will also be provided.The budget also proposes that 25 schools will be provided with the computer facilities. It also mentions the introduction of extra coaching classes for students who will be giving the scholarship exam to be conducted in 2016-17.The budget proposal states that the coaching for scholarship will be available for class V and class VIII students in the respective corporation schools within the civic limits from the 2016-17 academic year.Mohan Sarwalkar, the chief accountant of the KMC education board, said that provisions have also been made for teachers' training so that they can improve their skills."Teachers' training through expert guidance is necessary these days. This will improve the teachers' confidence and will help the students as well," Sarwalkar said. He added that that keeping in mind the importance of extracurricular activities for students, the budget has also made sure that provisions regarding the science exhibition, cultural programs, and sports competitions are made.Under these provisions, the education board will organise inter-school sports competitions will on January 26 every year. Besides this, cultural programmes will also be held. To improve the scientific skills in the civic school students, a science exhibition has also been planned, Sarwarkar said.Sattappa Mohite, an education activist, on the budgetary provisions said that even though the provisions may sound good, implementation remains a major concern.
